The Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) are two of the top-notched T20 cricketing leagues across the globe momentarily. Since their initiation, both IPL and CPL have featured world-class cricketers in their season and also share some familiar names among their franchises.

As a few of the team owners are common in the two leagues, the cricket world has witnessed multiple duos who have been mates in IPL and CPL.

Notably, the owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders also owns Trinidad and Tobago in CPL. Also, the proprietor of the Punjab Kings in IPL also holds St Lucia Zouks in the Caribbean League.

Undeniably, Jason Holder of West Indies and Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh are two of the genuine all-rounders the cricket fraternity has ever produced. Both of the players have led their teams on an international scale and often enjoy friendly banter on the field.

The Shakib-Holder duo has played in IPL and CPL contemporaneously. They were mates in IPL 2016 donning the KKR jerseys whereas, they have played for Barbados Tridents together as well.

Shakib owns 793 runs in 71 encounters at an average of 19.8 and 63 wickets. Whereas, Holder owns 189 runs in 26 games at the mediocre average of 14.5 along with 35 wickets averaging 22.46 at an economy of 8.20.

Darren Sammy, however, has been part of the CPL for so long but embraced Australia’s David Warner in the St Lucia team in the 2018 edition. The Australian cricketer was induced in the crew after the infamous ball-tampering scandal.

In the IPL, the Sammy-Warner duo has played for the Sun Risers Hyderabad (SRH). Both of them have also captained the Orange Army in different years. Warner is the fifth-highest run-getter of the IPL with 5449 to his name at an average of 41.59 in 150 matches since 2009.

Sammy only played a few seasons of IPL hence, has only 295 runs in 22 matches alongside 11 wickets at an economy of 8.89.

Chris Lynn and Andre Russell:

Australia’s Chris Lynn and West Indies Andre Russell are among the five duos who were mates in IPL and CPL.

Both of them have constantly been proving themselves as terrific T20 batters. While Russell has always been part of the Jamaica Tallawahs, the Aussie batting delighted the franchise in 2015.

The duo played together for the Purple force in IPL in the same year. As of now, they are in different squads.

Andre Russell, in IPL, has played for Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders and is yet Purple Force’s part. He is one of the top run-getters and icon players of the Indian T20 league with 1700 runs in 17 innings at an average of 29.31.

On the other hand, Chris Lynn enjoys 1329 runs in 42 IPL matches as he enjoyed the party in 2012. He is also a significant run-maker in the Big Bash League.

New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum, on multiple occasions, has been seen playing together with West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo.

In IPL, McCullum and Bravo have worn the jerseys for Chennai Super Kings and Gujrat Lions. They represented Trinbago Knight Riders in CPL 2016.

The New Zealander has been enjoying the perks of staying with almost every franchise. He represented Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Lions, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore from the league’s inauguration to 2018. McCullum has 2880 runs from 109 games at an average of 27.69.

Bravo, from the first season of the IPL, is yet its part and has gathered 1537 runs in 151 matches averaging 22.9. He has played for Mumbai Indians initially and was picked by Chennai Super Kings. Later, after CSK got banned for two years, Gujarat Lions picked him, but CSK retained Bravo once again after the ban was lifted up.

At first, Ravi Rampaul and Ab De Villiers met in the world’s cash richest league for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. While Ravi was already part of the Caribbean league, De Villiers joined his team, Barbados Tridents, in 2016.

The two players have been winning hearts with their smashing performances in the leagues.

Mentioning the Southpaw individually, he had rendered significance to the Proteas. The cricket world was saddened to witness AB De Villiers rounding off his career in 2021. De Villiers was not only a cricketer but a brand that will be remembered forever.

Discussing De Villiers’ IPL stats, he gathered 5162 runs in 184 matches at an average of 39.7. Also, he is the sixth-highest run-getter of the world’s richest league. For the last many years, he has been committed to the Bangalores but was once seen playing for Delhi Daredevils. His bond with Virat Kohli is loved by many.

Unfortunately, the batter will not be available to serve RCB in IPL 2022 counting his retirement. Meanwhile, enjoy his sixes in the league.

On the other hand, Ravi enjoys 12 wickets in 14 IPL games at an economy of 6.82. He was not seen playing the league after the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
